Hotel chains and operators
Who is behind the brand on the facade, how a chain differs from a management company, and what it all means for your income.
Why the brand matters to an investor
Guests
A chain brings guests through its booking system, travel sites and a loyalty programme with millions of members. An unbranded hotel has to find them on its own.
Room rates
Brand standards let a hotel charge more than similar unbranded ones, which feeds straight into the owner's income.
Resale
A unit in a well-known chain is easier to sell: buyers know what they get and can check reviews and occupancy.
Brand, management company and franchise
The brand provides the name, standards, booking system and loyalty programme. The management company runs the hotel day to day: staff, sales and accounting. Sometimes it is the same company, sometimes not — a hotel can be a Wyndham franchise run by an independent operator.
For a unit owner the key document is the contract with the management company: it sets the income share, fees and guarantees. The brand on the facade is no substitute for checking that contract.

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts
The world's largest hotel franchisor by number of hotels
- ~9,300
- hotels
- 95+
- countries
- 25
- brands
A US company headquartered in New Jersey and listed on the New York Stock Exchange. It works mostly by franchise: the developer or a management company gets the brand, booking system and standards, while Wyndham controls quality.
Brands are tiered: Wyndham Grand for luxury and resorts, Wyndham and Wyndham Garden for upper-midscale, TRYP by Wyndham for city hotels, and Ramada for the mass market, well known in Turkey, the Middle East and Asia.
For an investor this means guests from the Wyndham Rewards programme, sales through booking sites and travel agents worldwide, and a recognised standard that is easier to let and resell than a room in an unbranded hotel.

Radisson Hotel Group
A European group of business and resort hotels
- 1,100+
- hotels open and in the pipeline
- 95+
- countries
- 1909
- the brand founded
Headquartered in Brussels; since 2018 the group has belonged to China's Jin Jiang International, one of the world's largest hotel holding companies. The Radisson brand dates back to 1909.
The range: Radisson Collection for flagship hotels and resorts, Radisson Blu for upper-upscale business and leisure, Radisson for the classic tier, and Radisson RED as a design-led lifestyle format for younger guests.
For a unit owner the value is brand recognition among corporate clients and tour operators, which brings occupancy beyond the high season. How income is shared is set by the contract with the project's management company, so read it separately from the brand.

Best Western Hotels & Resorts
Independent hotels under one brand since 1946
- ~4,300
- hotels
- 100+
- countries
- 1946
- founded
A US network with an unusual model: hotels are not owned or run by the company but join the network and pay for the brand, sales and standards. That's why Best Westerns in one city can differ a lot — look at the sub-brand.
BW Premier Collection and Best Western Premier are upscale, Best Western Plus is upper-midscale, and WorldHotels is a collection of independent high-end hotels.
For an investor the key question is who actually runs the hotel on site: occupancy and owner payouts depend on that company.

Management company
Aimbridge Hospitality
The largest independent hotel management company
- 1,500+
- hotels managed
- 65
- years in business
- Hilton, Marriott, Wyndham
- and other brands it manages
A key distinction: the brand (Wyndham, Hilton) provides the name, standards and booking system, while the management company runs the hotel day to day — hiring staff, selling rooms and accounting for income. Aimbridge is the largest independent company of this kind, with 1,500+ hotels and more than 65 years of experience.
A project with both a strong brand and a professional manager lowers the main risk of hotel investment: weak occupancy from poor management.

Holiday exchange
RCI
The international holiday exchange network for hotel units
- 4,500+
- resorts
- 110+
- countries
- 3.8 million
- members
Holiday exchange was invented in 1974, and RCI has remained the largest system of its kind ever since: 4,500+ resorts in 110+ countries, 51 offices in 34 countries and 3.8 million members. RCI is now part of Travel + Leisure Co.
How it works. You own a unit in a resort affiliated with RCI. You can deposit your week (or several) into the shared exchange pool and book a holiday at another resort of the same or higher category instead — for example, Bali or Mexico instead of Batumi.
Other membership benefits: extra holidays at up to 60% off in 600,000+ hotels, and points that can be spent on car hire, yachts, transfers and tours. The RCI Platinum tier adds free room upgrades, bonus points and priority access to the most popular resorts.
Where we have it. Wyndham Grand Batumi Gonio is affiliated with RCI, so unit owners get access to exchange. Check RCI membership terms and fees when you buy — they are not part of the guaranteed income.
